Other: Shade loving
This sedge adds great texture and chartreuse color to the shade garden and is often used as a naturalizing groundcover or as an accent in rain gardens. Although most sedges prefer wet conditions, Carex pensylvanica prefers drier sites and could be considered drought tolerant; often found on hillsides or under trees. Small brown seed heads appear late spring above the fine, triangle shaped blades and are often insignificant. Sedge is also very low maintenance and is sometimes used as a lawn subsititute where turf grass won't establish in shaded areas.
