'Bluebird' columbine is part of the hybrid Songbird Series which is known for its compact habit and flowers that face upright/skyward. Foliage is a beautiful grey-green and is very reminiscent of meadow rue and seem to be held on the plant daintily like maiden ferns. Flowers bloom in early spring and are made up of outer pale blue petals that look like talons with white cup-like petals that surround yellow stamens in the center. Plants thrive in consistently moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and can tolerate a wide range of soils. Columbine is relatively deer and rabbit resistant and purportedly makes a long-lasting cut flower for vases.
