This cultivar of white birch is noted for its columnar, somewhat pyramidal habit and above average resistance to the bronze birch borer. It prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade (part shade is better in Iowa landscapes) and makes a nice specimen tree for tighter spaces like residential yards. Dakota Pinnacle® has dense, dark green triangle-like foliage that turns yellow in autumn and white bark that can peel in maturity. It is also supposed to be hardier than the species and tolerates strong winds. Dakota Pinnacle® was introduced by North Dakota State University.
