Giant hyssop is a well known herb that is favored for its bee-friendly flowers and licorice-scented leaves. 'Blue Fortune' sends up tall, compact spikes of blue tubular flowers in summer with almost endless bloom until fall (deadheading will extend bloom season) and hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators love them. Hyssop prefers average, well-drained soils in full sun and will overwinter better in our climate if stems are left in winter and cut back instead in spring. Plants can be prone to crown rot if planted in heavy clay or poorly drained soils. Flowers make great cut flowers and plants are deer resistant.
