Japanese maples are all the rage and 'Bloodgood' is among the most popular. These make excellent specimen or accent trees in a protected site, such as, up against a house or in the understory of a treeline. Foliage is often a deep burgundy color throughout the growing season and makes dappled shade due to the small, five-pointed leaves. Trees are ablaze in the fall in shades of scarlet and even the samaras share the same coloring. Japanese maples prefer moist, well drained soils in slightly acidic environments. For architectural interest, multi-stemmed trees can be found. Rabbit resistant. 'Bloodgood' is one of the hardier Japanese maples and will tolerate more sun than other cultivars.
