Nannyberry is a common Midwest native that is prized for its fruit and fall display. In spring, broad, flat, creamy-white flowers appear and attract butterflies and other pollinators and eventually mature into clusters of edible, yellowish berries that turn blue-black in autumn. Glossy dark green, elliptical leaves cover the plant throughout the growing season and eventually mature into a reddish-purple fall color. Plants have little to no disease or insect problems and are found in well-drained soils in full sun or part shade.
