Allegheny serviceberry (or Juneberry) makes a wonderful understory or ornamental tree/shrub for four season interest. Each spring they are covered in small white, fragrant blooms which mature into edible, dark purple-red fruits (one of the sweetest of the serviceberries) by summer. Small, elliptical bright green leaves cover the rounded canopies throughout the growing season before changing to shades of red and orange in autumn. They do best in moist, loamy well-drained soils in full sun to part shade (some tolerance to drought and sweeter soils) and benefit from a layer of mulch. Lustre® was selected for its improved flowering, minimal suckering, and open habit.
