Mystic RubyTM Buckeye was selected for its improved leaf spotting and scorching problems over other Aesculus cultivars. It produces pinkish red flowers in the spring, providing a beautiful, radiant display. The flowers are typical of other species of Aesculus; they contrast with the deep green, coarse-leaved foliage, rising above the leaves. The blooms are borne on upright panicles that are about 4-7 inches in length and grow at the end of the branches. These flowers are attractive to bees and other wildlife. The flowers give way to buckeye seed production in the fall, and in winter has shown increased tolerance of colder temperatures in colder climates. This buckeye tree produces many nuts. Plant in partial to dappled shade and out of afternoon sun for an outstanding specimen.
All parts of the buckeye are poisonous to ingest.
