Cranesbill is a very attractive and care free plant, blooming for weeks during late spring. 'Max Frei' is a cultivar that was selected for its compact habit and purplish/red flower color. Leaves are a deep green and collectively form a nice compact dense mound that turn scarlet red after the first fall frost. It makes a perfect plant choice for front-of-the-border plantings or as a large mass. Cranesbill is virtually disease and insect resistant and tolerates a multitude of site conditions, although it prefers good, well-drained soil. Deer and rabbit resistant and will often attract butterflies.
