Stellar Pink® dogwood is an exceptional specimen for landscapes and should be placed in areas where it can be shown off. They are a spring flowering tree that has flat, pink "flowers" (the colored portions are actually modified leaves called bracts). The oval leaves are dark green and change to a wine color in autumn which makes a great backdrop for other fall colored shrubs and perennials. Dogwoods do best in acidic, moist, well drained soils in part shade and appreciate a heavy layer of mulch to keep their roots cool. It attracts birds and butterflies too. Stellar Pink® is also resistant to the dogwood borer and anthracnose. Originally part of a breeding program out of Rutgers University.
