Maiden grass is a very fine textured and graceful grass that reaches large heights in the same growing year. Narrow blades are a deep green, often with a white line down the midrib, and the overall plant is clump forming. Elegant tassel-like blooms emerge in late summer and flower a copper color before turning silver by fall. 'Adiago' is a dwarf variety with graceful, silvery green arching foliage that becomes a whirl of orange, gold, and burgundy in fall. Spectacular in mass plantings or mixed into perennial borders. If foliage is left in winter, it will add texture and interest to the winter landscape. Maiden grass is very tolerant of a wide range of soils but does best in more moist conditions.
