Black Lace® European elderberry is a very exotic looking plant that does well in Midwestern climates. It is characterized by lacy, deeply cut black foliage throughout the growing season and in early summer is accented with flat topped, lemon-scented clusters of pink flowers. It can also produce black berries if a suitable pollinator is planted nearby as the species is dioecious. European elderberries do best in moist, well-drained conditions in full sun to part shade and will tolerate clay soils. Frequent pruning will help keep the plant tidy and well-shaped.
