Goat's beard is a back-of-the-border perennial that thrives in moist, fertile, lightly shaded areas. It gets tall plumes of cream colored flowers in early spring that rise above the foliage and has a resemblance to a larger version of astilbe. If flowers are permitted to stay on the plant, dried blossoms can add texture to the landscape for the growing season. As long as plants stay moist, goat's beard is very low maintenance and fairly carefree. It can however be slow to establish.
'Chantilly Lace' will be shorter if grown in full sun, closer to 24" tall, than if grown in shade or a sun-filtered area, where it will grow to a height of 30-32".
