Japanese forest grass is the perfect grass for shade, mixed amongst hostas and coral bells as a groundcover or as a specimen plant. 'Aureola' just seems to glow in the shade; staying compact and showing off its bicolored golden-yellow and green, bamboo-like leaves. It prefers a moist soil and slowly grows bigger in consecutive years. Japanese forest grass has some deer resistance and can be planted around black walnuts. Fall color can be pretty, turning slightly red in cooler weather.
