Norway maples are characterized by their glossy planetree-like leaves and prized for their adaptability to urban conditions. 'Royal Red' has clusters of yellow-green flowers in early spring that are quite ornamental and develop into purple samaras by summer. Maroon/purple, glossy leaves cover the oval-shaped tree throughout the growing season before falling off in autumn. Norway maples are very tolerant of drought, heat, humidity, site conditions, and pollution, making them the perfect shade tree for parks and other urban areas. Moderate growing maple with shallow root systems. Has better cold hardiness and reduced transplant shock than other purple Norway maples.
