Wisteria is a hardy, U.S. native woody vine that can shade a pergola or arbor and provide early summer color. Blooms are arranged into clusters of pale purple, pea-like flowers that cascade from new wood/growth in June and are slightly fragrant. Flowers give way to long, slender seed pods in late summer. Wisteria do best in slightly acidic, well-drained soils in full sun. Although wisteria are known to spread, Wisteria macrostachya is supposed to be less invasive. Summer Cascade™ is also more cold hardy than other cultivars in the species.
