The Yoshino cherry is a prized flowering ornmental that makes an excellent street, shade, or specimen tree. Spectacular, profuse, fragrant white (sometimes tinted pink) flowers appear in early spring before fading to small, black cherries that are adored by birds. Serrate, elliptical dark green leaves emerge following flowering and remain on the canopy throughout the growing season before turning shades of yellow and bronze in autumn. Yoshino cherries grow best in average, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade with some tolerance to heat and humidity. Trees may be short lived in Northern climates.
