'Techny' is a popular cultivar of arborvitae selected for its broad, upright and compact habit. Branching of 'Techny' is less dense than other arborvitae which can add more interest to a border or screen, especially because of its darker grey-green scaly foliage. It can be tolerant of most soils, however it is at home in moist, well-draining soils and does not like being dry. Does best in a wind-protected site though it has tendency to show less windburn.
