'Delft Lace' astilbe is the perfect thing to lighten up an area of the shade garden. It has delicate plumes of airy pink flowers that make excellent cut flowers and blooms just before hostas start dominating the landscape. Compound leaves grow together in a mounding habit and have red highlights against the medium green throughout the growing season. The red hues can intensify in autumn. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and benefits from partial shade through the day, even tolerating deep shade. It is deer/rabbit resistant and very low maintenance. Stunning when massed together in full bloom. 'Delft Lace' also has attractive red spent flower heads compared to other cultivars and was selected for its strong stems and colorful foliage.
