Siberian bugloss is a very attractive perennial for adding silvery touches to the shade garden. It is characterized by wands of blue forget-me-not-like flowers in early spring and striking silvery-green variegated leaves that have an almost metallic-like shine. Brunnera does best in rich, consistently moist soils, but can tolerate average soils as well. Leaves can scorch in late afternoon sun and therefore does best in more shaded conditions (however 'Jack Frost' is more sun/heat tolerant than other cultivars). Plants prefer a nice layer of mulch and in optimal conditions, may form a slow-growing ground cover. No major insect/disease issues and is considered rabbit/deer resistant because of the rough texture of the leaves. Perennial plant of the Year in 2012.
