Calamint is an ornamental herb in the mint family that is prized for its adaptability, tenacity, and fragrance. It is covered in tiny, ovate bright-green leaves throughout the growing season and by summer, is covered in wands of blue, bi-lipped flowers that attract all sorts of pollinators. Calamint prefers evenly moist, well-drained soils in full sun, however it can withstand drought, rocky soils, alkalinity, acidity, and helps with controlling erosion. Plants are disease and insect resistant and remain prevalent in the garden via reseeding and spreading by rhizomes. Plants are impressive when massed or allowed to cascade out of retaining walls. Calamint was the 2021 Perennial Plant of the Year.
