Sugar maples have one of the best fall colors when it comes to trees and are a beautiful mix of reds, yellows, and oranges. They are often characterized by a rounded, upright form which is covered in thick, medium-green leaves throughout the growing season. These slower growing maples do best in full sun to part shade in well-drained soils. Sugar maples have no serious insect or disease problems, however they do not tolerate pollution or salts well. 'Endowment' is perfect for small or tight spaces and turns a brilliant mix of orange and yellow in the fall. It is also purportedly more heat and drought tolerant than the species.
