Flaky juniper thrives in drought conditions or other equally dry sites. It is discernible by its blue scale-like foliage that covers the stems and remains attractive throughout the year. Junipers do best in average, well-drained soils in full sun, although they will tolerate clay, urban conditions, and rocky, dry soils. They are intolerant of wet conditions. 'Blue Star' was chosen for its tight, compact branching that makes the juniper seem to hug the ground and its extreme blue color.
