Panicle hydrangeas are another good choice for midwestern gardens because of their durability, tolerance of our growing conditions, and ability to survive and thrive in full sun. Summer tends to be the most noteworthy season because of the terminal inflorescences of white flowers that bloom for weeks at a time. For winter interest, flower heads can be left on once they turn brown to add texture. Panicle hydrangeas often tolerate a myriad of growing conditions, including tolerances to urban sites, full sun, and better cold hardiness, but do prefer being kept cool (attainable with a layer of mulch). Bobo® was selected for its smaller flower heads that fade to a pinky-purple, compact habit, early blooming period, and stiff stems that hold flowers erect.
