The columnar or Columbo Mugo Pine, is an upright evergreen that is low-maintenance and excellent where space might be tight. It features conspicuous white buds in winter that stand out nicely against whorls of dark green needles on a columnar habit 8-10 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at maturity. Decorative cones are produced young, and the compact columnar habit is open enough to provide peeks of the red-orange bark. Drought tolerant when established and cold-hardy to -50F. Grows well in the ground or in containers for situating on or around sunny patios and other outdoor sitting spaces. Does not need to be pruned but also takes shape nicely when used as a topiary. Prefers well drained soil.
