Oakleaf hydrangeas are named for their large, oak-like leaves and are a refreshing deviation from the standard hydrangea. 'Snow Queen' has long, pyramidal/cone like panicles of white flowers in midsummer that fade to pink (they make a good cut flower) and if left on plants, will turn to a papery brown color and add texture and interest to the winter landscape. Bark is known to recurve and exfoliate adding to the textural value in winter as well. The dark green leaves of 'Snow Queen' will turn varying shades of bronze and purple in autumn. Oakleaf hydrangeas prefer rich, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and benefit from a layer of mulch to retain moisture. Site in a protected area for best growth and bloom. No major diseases or insect issues.
