Persian ironwood is an excellent tree for problematic sites. In late winter, clusters of tiny insignificant reddish stamens appear and fade to velvety brown seed pods. Leaves emerge tinged in bronze before turning dark green. In autumn, the rounded canopies turn various shades of yellow, orange, and red. Another great feature is the exfoliating bark (in maturity) which peals away in patches to show white, green, or tan colors underneath. Persian ironwood prefer slightly acidic, well-drained soils in full sun, but they tolerate a wide array of conditions (partial shade, salts, pollution, clay, poor drainage, heat, wind, drought, etc.). No major insect or disease issues.
