Stonecrop is one of the best plants for xeriscaping or water-wise gardens in part due to their succulent-like nature. They thrive in the heat and full sun and don't mind being on the drier side too. In the heat of early summer, this sedum explodes into bloom with tiny masses of yellow star-like flowers that cover the green foliage until fall. The edges of the leaves are tinged in pink giving it its variegated look. Once flowers fade, they produce showy, attractive seed heads that are colored burnt-orange. Stonecrop make excellent perennials for massing or for creeping over rocks. Stonecrop does best in well-drained soils and can even be planted between rocks, pavers, and other small areas where other perennials may otherwise grow. They are also relatively disease/insect resistant and rabbits and deer tend to avoid them.
