This is a hybrid pine, crossed from the eastern white pine and the Mexican pine. It has intensely blue, soft, long needles that are arranged in bundles and gray, scraggy-looking bark that is often covered in dried white sap. The 'Domingo' pine is often broad and very pyramidal in shape as it grows and will start producing slender, brown pine cones in maturity. Some needles may turn yellow in the fall and shed, adding some interest to the autumn landscape. The 'Domingo' pine grows well in dry to medium moisture levels, and most well-drained soils in full sun. Does not do well in compacted soils. 'Domingo' is also supposed to be fairly resistant to winter dessication by wind.
Pinus strobus is an Iowa native.
