Limber pine is easily recognizable in a landscape by its upright, pyramidal shape and twisted, blue-green needles. As a native of the Rocky Mountains, it prefers drier, poor soils in full sun though it can tolerate more moist soils provided they are well-drained. Medium-brown pinecones appear throughout the growing season and look fantastic against the bunched needles. It is relatively disease and insect resistant and deer do not find it palatable. 'Vanderwolf's Pyramid' is faster growing than the native species and is more pyramidal in shape.
