Mugo pines make an excellent specimen plant for rock gardens or for dry and droughty soils. Sage-green colored needles cover this dense, clump-forming pine on branches that grow vertically. They do best sited in moist, well-drained loamy soils, but are quite adaptable and tolerate drought, dry/chalky soils, urban conditions, and clay soils povided they drain freely. An excellent choice for winter texture and interest. 'Slowmound' is especially tolerant of salts and holds its green color well through winter.
