'Frontier' is a hybrid elm that was selected for its resistance to diseases; most notably Dutch elm disease. It is an average size, pyramidal tree that is tolerant of alkaline and droughty soils, however it prefers average, well drained moist soils. It has four season interest: some samaras in spring, glossy green foliage in summer, good bronze-burgundy fall color, and pyramidal shaped architecture in the winter. Elms are also prized as an urban tree because of their ability to withstand various growing conditions (including salts and pollution), thus it does well as a street tree or a park tree.
