Lilyturf is a very soft textured ground cover perennial that does best in part shade, however it can tolerate full sun. It prefers well drained soils though is tolerant of a wide array of soils and growing conditions. Once established, it also tolerates drought conditions. Dark green, rounded grass-like leaves persist throughout the growing season and by late summer, small spikes of lavender flowers appear and eventually fade to black berries. 'Big Blue' was selected for its larger growth habit and larger flowers when compared with other species and cultivars in the genus. Lilyturf is also deer and rabbit resistant and is a good choice for areas that succumb to erosion.
