Fragrant sumac is a beautiful sight in the fall and adds a nice texture to the landscape. Its medium green leaves are arranged in threes and turn vivid shades of orange and red in the fall. Small towers of chartreuse blooms appear in early spring before the leaves and catkins can form by late summer. Stems and leaves are fragrant if damaged or bruised. 'Gro-Low' was also selected for its low growing habit, but it will spread by suckering making it an excellent choice for naturalizing or massing. Fragrant sumac does best in full sun to part shade in well-drained, dry soils. It will tolerate most all growing conditions except those that promote poor drainage.
