Sweet woodruff is an underused ground cover for the shade garden. Its sweetly scented foliage adds an airy texture to borders and in early spring is covered in terminal clusters of white flowers. Foliage and flowers are supposed to smell like mown hay and when dried, can be used in sachets, teas, and other scented crafts. Sweet woodruff does best in part to full shade in medium to wet, well-drained soils though can tolerate the occasional drought period. No major insect or disease problems.
