Tulip trees are named for their tulip shaped blooms and foliage. They are one of the largest native North American trees and grow rather quickly, putting on almost two feet per year! Their oval canopies are covered in bright green, tulip shaped leaves which turn a sharp yellow in autumn. Tulip/magnolia like blooms appear in early summer in hues of yellow, chartreuse, and orange before maturing into cone shaped brown fruits. Tulip trees are an excellent option for wet or clay soils as they prefer the excess moisture, provided the soils are well-drained and sited in full sun (can tolerate part shade if conditions are right). No major disease or insect problems. Deer resistant.
