Japanese zelkova is a beautiful vase shaped shade tree that is planted for its graceful architecture and attractive fall color. Throughout the growing season, zelkova is covered in dark green serrated leaves that provide a dappled shade. Leaves change to shades of orange by autumn. Zlekova prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun, but are also prized for their ability to withstand various growing conditions (salts, clay, and drought); thus it does well as a street tree or a shade tree. As a member of the elm family, it should also be noted that Green Vase® is Dutch elm disease resistant.
