Japanese maples are all the rage in part due to its intense red/purple coloring. These make excellent specimen or accent trees in a protected site, such as, up against a house or in the understory of a treeline. Foliage is often a deep burgundy color (greener in more sun) throughout the growing season and makes dappled shade due to the medium, deeply cut, five-pointed leaves. Trees are ablaze in the fall in shades of scarlet as well as its seeds and flowers. Japanese maples prefer moist, well drained soils in slightly acidic environments. Rabbit resistant.
